I'M SCOTT KASDEN
Welcome to my Art Storefront site and thank you for visiting.
Putting words to paper about my journey has been humbling and shocking because of how many decades I have been in love with photography, all that has changed over the decades, and all of the opportunities I have been so lucky to experience with a camera in front of me!
I was introduced to a “real” camera in the 1970’s when I joined the photography club. This decision, like many we make during our lives, was just by chance. It was not long before I fell in love with the technical aspects of using a camera, and manipulating images in the darkroom. As an unexpected benefit, having a camera gave me an excuse to go to new places, and see new things. Looking through a view finder forced me to see and think about what was in front of me in a whole new and creative way. Decades later, I had an excellent mentor who introduced me to the concept of “get it right in the viewfinder”, so I would not have to spend too much time in post production. It enhanced my creativity and technical abilities.
After high school, my camera gathered dust as I pursued my formal education. I spent many years earning a bachelor’s degree, followed by a masters degree in zoology, a discipline that captured my passion! I took one year off from academics to work in “the real world” before going to medical school, and completing two surgical residencies, all the while, the trusty, by now antique camera gathered dust and rust!
The final two years of my surgical training was in plastic surgery, and using a camera is an integral part of the day to day duties, and once again I reunited with my (now a modern film camera). No matter that the photographic assignments were of pre and post op patients, with lighting and poses all proscribed, the sleeping desires were reawakened within me!
I am now retired from over 31 years of caring for people with all sorts of needs and problems (an honor and privilege I am thankful to be so lucky to have experienced!).
During my working years I was fortunate to make many trips and I always had my camera handy. With my love of all things nature/wildlife/landscape (i.e., back to my love of zoology) I always seemed to find myself in remote places. For many trips, plans took over a year to make the trip happen!
Now that I am retired, my exotic trips will be way fewer, and much farther apart, but I’ll always have my camera in front of me, and I’ll have the time to go through my images (which number in excess of over 400,00!) and present you with the best images.
My goal is to share with you the experiences I had in far away, exotic places, with people in foreign lands that we might otherwise not even be aware off. I hope you enjoy your visit, and perhaps, after looking at some of my images, your wanderlust is ignited. Better, I hope that you act on the wanderlust and take a camera with you.
If you have any questions, or perhaps would like to see if I have some images that you would like to see that are not on this site, please contact me. In the meantime, I am working very hard to get them all posted for you to see.
